NRECA staffers delivered stacks of postcards sent in by co-op consumer-members in support of NRECA’s Our Energy, Our Future™ campaign, said Randy Dwyer, NRECA’s director of grassroots advocacy.
Members of the team visited 12 Senate offices and 20 offices of members of the House of Representatives.
The focus of the grassroots campaign remains keeping electric bills affordable and encouraging congressional support for legislation that will prevent the Environmental Protection Agency from regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act, which was not designed for that purpose, Dwyer said.
Statewide magazines, co-op newsletters and websites continue to reinforce the message that grassroots involvement could spur legislation that will help keep electricity affordable, said Dwyer. “Consumers have sent over 800,000 cards and more than 3.3 million e-mail messages to Capitol Hill as part of the Our Energy, Our Future campaign.”
