The venue in Washington, D.C., was the latest stop in the 4,000-mile journey of the wind turbine blade that’s been traveling the country garnering support for renewable energy policies.
The 131-foot-long blade arrived at Nationals Park June 29 for the 2010 Congressional Baseball Game.
The blade, which spans nearly half a football field in length, has served as a traveling petition in recent months, making its way through 10 states. Tour organizers GE and the American Wind Energy Association have estimated that it has collected more than 6,000 signatures.
The blade “symbolizes how clean energy creates new U.S. manufacturing jobs in addition to providing clean power for America’s homes and factories,” said Vic Abbate, a GE vice president.
The blade began its tour in May at a factory in Aberdeen, S.D., where officials from Northern Electric Co-op, Bath, helped send it off. Jim Moore, general manager, and Glen Larson, a director, signed their names to the giant blade.
