The RE Atlas uses geospatial technology, like that found in Google Maps, to allow users to pinpoint places for particular types of clean energy development.

The Strategic Energy Analysis Center at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, part of the Department of Energy, created the map and unveiled it earlier this month.

The map is intended for use by policymakers, energy developers, planners and others “who need to better understand the renewable resources available in the United States,” said the center’s Dan Getman.

“RE Atlas is an important addition to NREL’s suite of geospatial tools, because it brings together so many renewable energy datasets in one easy-to-use tool.”

Data on renewable resources, including biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar and wind, can be displayed individually or in a composite fashion.

You can find the RE Atlas by clicking on http://maps.nrel.gov/re_atlas.

NRECA’s website contains several interactive maps, as well, including one showing electric cooperatives’ renewable energy portfolios.
