The NRECA Board concluded what its leaders called a productive summer meeting June 23, after a thorough look at association activities and a strong emphasis on participation in the political process.
The three-day meeting, held at NRECA headquarters in Arlington, Va., gave the 47-member board an opportunity to meet with NRECA staffers and review progress on resolutions adopted by the membership.
The board also reviewed NRECA’s financial condition and received updates on a variety of legislative issues.
Board President F.E. “Wally” Wolski said the productivity of the meeting was impressive, considering that the board welcomed 11 new members who worked hard to get up to speed on association issues.
He said the summer session also helped to “prime the pump” for the series of regional meetings that will begin this fall.
“The range of challenges facing co-ops is greater than ever before, and that means a lot of important business is coming before this board,” Wolski told the board.
“I’m very encouraged by the level of commitment that I have seen and I think that benefits the association and its members.”
In addition to its review of NRECA work, the board adopted a resolution to fund the Cooperative Research Network. The resolution calls for an additional assessment of 3 cents per meter for the next two years, to a total assessment of 21 cents per meter by 2012.
Representatives of the Strategic Planning Committee, which sponsored the resolution, said the move will ensure CRN can continue its important research.
