NRECA: A ‘Great Place to Work’
For the fourth time this year, NRECA has received recognition as a notable workplace. This latest honor comes from Washingtonian magazine, a monthly magazine serving the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region.
The magazine’s sixth annual survey named NRECA as one of the D.C. metro area’s 50 “Great Places to Work.”
The survey, published every two years, rates 50 local companies on a variety of measures, including pay and benefits, flexibility, community outreach and professional development opportunities.
NRECA was chosen from more than 200 employers representing a range of industries and ranging in size from small companies to employers with tens of thousands of employees. Employer scores also relied on the results of 13,000 employee surveys.
Earlier this year, NRECA ranked high on several national workplace polls. It placed fifth on the AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50 list, another biennial poll, and was named as one of the “Best Places to Work in IT,” by ComputerWorld magazine.
And just recently, NRECA learned that its family friendly workplace policies have earned it a local CARE award from Northern Virginia Family Service.
Paul Hvidding, NRECA’s vice president, human resources, attributed the honors to the association’s concerted efforts to improve the work environment based on results of another survey, the annual “Employee Engagement Survey.”
This particular survey, conducted by the Gallup Organization, allows the association “to benchmark ourselves” against the results of a larger database of two million employees, Hvidding said. “It has helped us make improvements in the way we deal with employees’ needs and concerns.”
Careful recruiting practices have also contributed to a healthy organization, Hvidding added.
“We have paid more attention and are more committed to hiring not just talented employees with strong skills and experience, but also those with a heart for our mission and who fit in culturally,” said Hvidding.
