They were welcomed March 30 to the annual New Co-op Communicator Orientation by NRECA CEO Glenn English. After personally meeting with each of the guests, English spoke to the group about some of the most important issues facing co-ops, from Capitol Hill to their own backyards.
“We want to deliver safe, reliable electric power. That’s important, to make sure we keep the lights on,” English said. “It’s extremely important to try to keep electric power affordable, and that’s where most of our struggle is right now.” Stressing the need to keep electric bills low, English noted, “Everything we’re doing is to try to achieve that objective.”
During the busy two-and-a-half day gathering, participants had orientation sessions and briefings on the wide range of materials and support available to them, including a lesson on “Co-op 101”; an update on NRECA’s Straight Talk program; a showcase with representatives of several programs including Touchstone Energy® and the Cooperative Research Network; and a visit to the headquarters of the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation and the National Rural Telecommunications Cooperative.
