NRECA-Lincoln: No. 1 Place to WorkBy Victoria A. Rocha | ECT Staff Writer Published: April 23rd, 2013
If you’re looking for a workplace with “an enjoyable corporate culture and work environment that fosters personal and professional growth for its employees,” look no further than NRECA in Lincoln, Neb.
That’s according to the inaugural “Best Places to Work in Lincoln” competition in which NRECA in Lincoln received top ranking among large organizations. Lincoln law firm Woods & Aitken LLP, the Lincoln Journal Star, and the Lincoln Human Resource Management Association co-sponsored the contest.
“We are so proud of our Lincoln staff for making their workplace a great place,” said NRECA CEO Jo Ann Emerson. “This award recognizes their leadership, excellent teamwork and engagement.”
About 110 of the association’s 150-plus workers completed the survey, answering questions such as “My immediate supervisor cares about my development,” and “I trust the leaders of this organization to set the right course.” Employees were also asked how they felt about salary, benefits and job satisfaction.
Nearly 100 companies were nominated for the awards, and 74 participated in the Best Places to Work in Lincoln survey conducted earlier this year. More than 4,000 employees took the survey.
“I feel important,” Rob McBride, a data verification clerk, told the Lincoln Journal Star. “I feel needed and wanted here, which is great. They believe in me.”
In a promotional video about the award, Pam Zimbelman, executive director, Lincoln operations, talked about the association’s small family feel.
“We began in 1984 with 13 workers and most of them are still here,” Zimbelman said. “The fact that we’ve grown up together and that it still feels like a small company is a testament to our dedication to our work and to each other.”
