Alabaman Wins Top State Honor
What’s next after you receive a Touchstone Energy® Power and Hope Award? For recipient Bert Jones, a lineman at Baldwin EMC, it was the Alabama statewide’s top honor.

In September, Jones, a 21-year lineman at the Summerdale, Ala., co-op, received the Jack Jenkins Cooperative Citizenship Award for outstanding contributions to the co-op and the community.
Nominated for the statewide honor by the co-op’s board of directors, Jones won the Power and Hope Award in April 2008 for saving the life of a motorcycle crash victim.
When he’s not in the field, Jones “likes keeping busy” weekdays as a councilman on the Silverhill, Ala., town council, a member of the local planning and zoning committee, or as chairman of the local heritage day. On other days, he’s busy at church.
And it’s catch-up day or “helping others” on Saturdays. “Everyone asks me to run for mayor, but I don’t see how that would fit into my schedule,” Jones said. “Maybe when I retire.”
