Not only can you fill your tummy at this McDonald’s, you can also fill your plug-in electric hybrid. When it opened July 14, it became the first McDonald’s in the nation to have a charging station for electric vehicles.

“The networked grid-friendly charging stations are a perfect complement to the many innovative green features of the restaurant,” said Ric Richards, the owner/operator.

Located in Cary, N.C., near Raleigh, the new eatery replaced a 25-year-old McDonald’s. This version uses light-emitting diodes—LEDs—in 95 percent of its light fixtures.

And Richards estimated that some 550,000 gallons of water will be saved annually by using high efficiency kitchen and bathroom fixtures among other water-saving features.
