The company said the LZ-1, as the car is formally known, will have a 240 kW electric motor and will go 249 miles on a full charge. And while this is certain to get you a ticket if you attempt it on the interstate, the car will be able to go up to 161 mph.
“Our goal is to make the new electric super car drive 0-60 miles per hour from the start within 2.9 seconds,” said John Lee, CEO of Leo Motors.
The automaker said the LZ-1 will have its body covered by carbon fiber and aluminum alloy, to increase safety. The company also developed a new electric power train.
Also under development is a plug-in hybrid version which will run not on gasoline, but on a mix of hydrogen and liquefied petroleum gas. That mix will fuel a generator that supplies electricity to the electric power train. Officials said the PHEV, known as the LZ-1H, is expected to go 560 miles per fueling.
