New Funding Opportunity for Co-ops
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is making available $2.4 million to rural electric co-ops, local governments and others to help rural small businesses and agricultural producers perform energy audits.
Grants under the Rural Energy for America program can be as much as $100,000; applicants must use funds for energy audits and provide renewable energy development assistance. The deadline for applications is July 26.
The program, authorized under the Farm Bill, “promotes efficient use of energy which can help curb our dependence on fossil fuels,” said USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack in a statement.
“In keeping with the Obama administration’s effort to create a clean energy economy, these audits will enable owners of rural businesses, farms, and ranches to better monitor their energy usage and take steps to reduce consumption,” said Vilsack.
For more information on the program, go to the Programs and Opportunities section of the USDA Rural Development website.
