Energy Efficiency, Plus a DiscountBy Michael W. Kahn | ECT Staff Writer Published: February 21st, 2012
Here’s an offer it’ll be hard to refuse: Learn all about home energy efficiency, and get a discount to boot.
That’s the deal for employees of electric cooperatives that are members of Touchstone Energy®.
The Midwest Regional Energy Star Conference takes place in Louisville, Ky., March 8-9. Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives are sponsoring the event, which will be held at the city’s convention center.
The conference features general and breakout sessions that will focus on building, selling and maintaining energy-efficient homes.
“Residential energy efficiency and building science encompasses much more than installing a few CFLs and adding some attic insulation,” said Alan Shedd, director, residential and commercial energy programs, at Touchstone Energy.
“This is a great opportunity to learn from the experts,” Shedd added. “This conference provides practical information that co-ops can use to help raise the bar on energy efficiency programs.”
Among the presenters will be Roy Honican, residential services coordinator at Blue Grass Energy in Nicholasville, Ky., who will lead a breakout session on controlling moisture and humidity in houses.
Other topics to be covered include a look at thermal imaging products; when to insulate existing walls—and when not to; and how to seal duct systems without creating problems for the HVAC system.
Anyone working for a Touchstone Energy co-op is eligible for a special $135 registration fee—a savings of $65 off the regular price.
The lodging deadline is Feb. 24. To register and receive the discount, click here and select “Employees and guests of education sponsors.” When prompted, enter access code Educvip.
