The keynote addresses are an important part of any NRECA annual meeting and this year’s lineup was no exception.

NRECA CEO Glenn English kicked things off Monday, March 7, when he opened the first general session at the Orange County Convention Center. English focused on the theme of the 2011 meeting, “Our Members – Our Power.”

Following him to the podium was Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, who spoke about administration policies. And then Tim Sanders, former chief solutions officer at Yahoo!, spoke on leadership as a sustainable resource.

Later Monday, former U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan of North Dakota was the guest speaker at CFC’s annual meeting.

On Tuesday, March 8, energy expert Susan Eisenhower was at the general session podium. The granddaughter of the late president Dwight D. Eisenhower talked about topics including the need for nuclear power and the future of renewable energy. Eisenhower is president of the Eisenhower Group, which provides strategic counsel on political, business and public affairs projects.

The closing general session on Wednesday, March 9, featured CBS News Correspondent Scott Pelley, who, since 2004, has reported for the venerable “60 Minutes.” Pelley, a 14-time Emmy award winner and 21-year veteran of the network, has also served as chief White House correspondent and a substitute anchor on the “CBS Evening News.” He weighed in on some of the most compelling stories in today’s headlines.
